Milwaukee Tools Apprentice of The Month - Cass Worden
Many apprentices come into our fold with little to no experience—which is not to say they lack talent, but without knowledge or skills frontloaded. This of course is by design in many aspects. But many times, an apprentice comes in who not only has previous experience but also has a mind perfectly suited to our profession. Enter Cass Worden, whose ability and knowledge have made her stand out amongst her peers as an exemplary apprentice who deserves recognition and as such has been named apprentice of the month.
“In many ways, my apprenticeship is a validation for me,” says Cass, who recently finished her second-year classes. “I came in with some experience, but I am gaining so much more now. I fully expect that by the end of this I will have proof of that skill that I can take with me from job to job. That pedigree, that assurance that my work is something I pride myself on.”
As to how Cass performs in the classroom, her teachers are quick to acknowledge her qualities as not only a good student but also an excellent classmate to her peers.
“Cass has consistently been a bright spot in class, both in her questions and how she interacts with her classmates,” says Zac Goodman, second year instructor. “There was no piece of this sometimes-difficult curriculum that she didn’t immediately cling to and want to learn everything about, which included asking excellent questions, helping her fellows, and excelling greatly on her tests.”
When asked for advice she would furnish to other apprentices, Cass has a simple but effective message: be flexible and open to new ideas.
“Be willing to learn the same thing in a new way,” says Cass. “Leave your prior knowledge and attitude at the door and possibly learn a better way to learn the thing you’ve already been doing. You lose nothing by learning a new way of doing things.”
For her hard work, Cass will receive a PACKOUT bag and hand tool from Milwaukee Tools and congratulations from all the staff at the Sacramento JATC.
