Apprentice of The Month - Nick Snyder
Apprentices must bring their ‘A’ game every day. It’s not easy to wake up, get ready for work and show up every single day, much less getting to work early to make sure you are prepared for the day ahead. Nick Snyder, fifth-year and December’s Apprentice of the Month, exemplifies all these characteristics and much more as he navigates his final year of the apprenticeship.
“It’s kind of lifechanging,” says Nick when asked how he feels about his apprenticeship. “It gives me extra motivation to succeed. I always try to go above and beyond and to use this as a stepping-stone.”
Nick’s work ethic does not go unnoticed when it comes to his coworkers or even his foreman. Pete McLaughlin, Nick’s foreman, talks about how eager Nick always is to absorb as much information as possible.
“He’s someone that stands out,” says Pete. “He’s very sharp. He always wants to know why he’s doing something and he’s well on his way to being a foreman.”
In addition to being a powerhouse in the field, Nick is no slouch in the classroom. Fifth year instructor Ben Gonzalez makes it clear he is a bright spot in class.
“Nick doesn’t want to just hear the information and throw it away, he is always genuinely interested in how this knowledge can make him a better electrician,” says Ben. “He is going to be a leader others are going to look up to and he is a person who is going to make a fine addition to our ranks.”
“If you ask a question, retain as much information as you can,” says Nick when asked how newer apprentices can thrive such as he has. “I see a lot of first and second years who try to think too much without doing. My advice would be to relax, take it step by step, and everything will come together eventually. The keys are patience and work ethic.”
For his hard work, Nick will receive a PACKOUT bag and hand tools from Milwaukee Tools and congratulations from the JATC and its staff.
