Milwaukee Tools Apprentice of The Month - Mauricio Allen

One of the most foundational necessities of being an apprentice is the requirement to show up, ask questions, and continue to improve day in and day out. This month’s apprentice of the month, second-year Mauricio Allen, has been delivering on all fronts and is considered by many of his peers to be worthy of praise.

“It’s important to me to be able to provide for my family,” says Mauricio, a father of two. “It takes hard work, but I know that when I turn out I won’t have to worry about money or benefits. This has all given me the opportunity to learn a skilled trade without having to go into debt.”

Mauricio, now entering his second year as an apprentice, has a ton of accolades that follow him and many from those who have had the opportunity to teach him.

“He has a great attitude in class and pretty wry sense of humor,” says Will McKee, Mauricio’s first-year instructor. “He always asks great questions that naturally lead into the next topic we’re talking about. That’s a great help in the classroom, to have someone that perceptive and aware.”

Not only able to make a mark in the classroom, Mauricio has also proven to be invaluable to the jobsite.

“He’s a very productive, quick learner,” says Tony Scott, a foreman who has worked with Mauricio. “Everything he does he thinks through all the way. When he has something he’s working on, he remembers everything and is very efficient with his time and movements.”

Mauricio’s view on his apprenticeship is something many up-and-coming students can learn from. When it comes to his own ethos, Mauricio isn’t shy about how he thinks of his job and career.

“Make sure you show up to work every day,” he says. “Don’t be afraid to make mistakes; you learn more from that. If you have a question, don’t be afraid to ask it. You should learn something new every day and always try to be the best you can be in the field and in the classroom.”

For his hard work, Mauricio will receive a PACKOUT bag and hand tools from Milwaukee Tools and congratulations from the JATC and its staff.
